Ssekandi is not a hypocrite, says Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has described the Vice President His Excellency Edward Ssekandi as an excellent leader who has no intrigue.

The president made the remarks over the weekend at Ssekandi’s Thanksgiving at Kkindu Secondary School Grounds in Kyanamukaaka, Bukoto Central, Masaka.

“Hon Ssekandi is an excellent leader, a good MP, who has no intrigue, is not a hypocrite and comes with a national stature,” Museveni said.

He added: “I have known him from our university days at Dar es Salaam.”

He thanked the people of Bukoto Central for voting Ssekandi back to Parliament.

“It was a right choice. I also thank Bukoto Central for voting me as President.”

Voters should use their electoral power wisely, the president urged.

“Don’t play with your electoral mandate. Elect leaders carefully, bearing in mind your problems and who has the ability to solve them.”

Most of the developments in Bukoto Central are due to Hon Ssekandi, he pointed out, citing electricity, the agriculture, the SACCOs and he has been recently to China to find investors to start a glass factory in Masaka.

“I therefore congratulate him upon his re-election and reappointment as Vice President.”

UPDF Captain kills Eritrean for 2m euros

Police in Uganda is investigating two banks in Kampala in connection with a syndicate that plotted to swindle two million Euros from an Eritrean national.

According to Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the police Spokesperson, the Eritrean, Daniel Weldo, 32, had moved to Kampala because of the volatile situation in South Sudan, where he was running businesses.

Weldo had saved two million Euros in an account in one of the Ugandan Banks.

He was reported missing on October 27.

Reports indicated that he had been kidnapped by unknown persons.

His body was found dumped in a farm near in Busia District, Kenya over the weekend.

Police investigations have unveiled a syndicate involving two banks and three people who could have connived to eliminate the businessman in order to get hold of his savings.

Although Kaweesi did not name the banks, he named the suspected individual accomplices as UPDF Captain Hakeem Mangen, the mastermind of the plot; Ben Lumu and Lucy Katuramu.

According to Kaweesi, although the core business between the three suspects is not known, preliminary investigations indicate that Weldo contacted them in his search for a Germany visa.

He added that the trio had accomplices in the banks with whom they worked in the hope that there will be no claimant to the money once the owner is eliminated.

Ugandan court orders arrest of Nigerian singer Wizkid

Ugandan court orders arrest of Nigerian singer Wizkid

Court in Uganda has ordered for the arrest of Nigerian singer Ibrahim Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid over several charges including obtaining money by false pretence, cheating and conspiracy to defraud.

According to the arrest warrant issued by Buganda Road Court Grade one Magistrate Moses Mufumbiro on December 16, Wizkid is supposed to be arraigned in court before January 16, 2017.

Wizkids woes stem from his failure to turn up for the much anticipated Live in Kampala’ concert this month after he failed to fly out of the US, according to the organizers of the event.

In a statement issued following his failure to turn up for the event, FACETV said that because of “unavoidable circumstances”, the 26-year-old musician was “unable” to jet into Uganda from the US city of Los Angeles.

His much-awaited concert was due this month at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala.

While it was undoubtedly a let-down for his Ugandan fans who had long awaited his coming, the Nigerian recording artist, songwriter and performer, “distraught” by his failure to make it into the country, sent his “love and apologies to the Ugandan people”.

Wizkid said he had cancelled all his concerts for the month and postponed them to February next year.

Not true that NRM lacks people to contest against Museveni, just greed – Besigye

Dr. Besigye during the interview

First of all, there has been a very serious and, I dare say, possibly deliberate misrepresentation of what Winnie Byanyima stated.

It has been presented as if Winnie Byanyima made a declaration to contest for the presidency. She was asked if she could offer leadership to the country and she responded that she can. That is different from making declaration.

What is happening is that the regime public relations is attempting to shift the debate from the stolen 2016 elections to 2021. That very clearly will not happen to us, we won an election in 2016 and we have incontrovertible evidence to show that we won. So we shall resist attempts by the regime propaganda machine to divert us.

All this is a deliberate attempt to shift attention to an election that may not take place. We are talking about 2016 which has not been conclusively resolved. Museveni stole the election using guns and no amount of diversion will distract us from recovering the will of the people. Period.

But secondly, there should not be a debate on those who seek to offer leadership for this country as long as they are qualified.

The debate, and this is precisely what we fight for, should be about fairness in the electoral process. In FDC we choose leaders democratically, which is an impossible undertaking in a dictatorship. That does not happen in NRM. You know what happened to Mr. Amama Mbabazi when he tried challenge Mr. Museveni. NRM has no transparent processes to choose leaders within the party and it’s why Museveni has been challenged for over 30yrs. It is not true that NRM has no people willing to contest against Museveni.

All Ugandans must feel free to contest and they must all fight for a fair process. What we have now is the most nepotistic political arrangement in the history of Uganda. You have Mr. Museveni who has constructed the state around his family and close relatives. This is a very stinking political arrangement. No Ugandan has a chance to fair competition in Uganda in all sectors. A student out of Makerere University has no fair chance to even compete for any job in Uganda.

So we are focused on our objective of reclaiming our victory. People who voted us are anxious and want to see that their will is respected.

I will make a formal end year of address to Ugandans and will offer clear directions for 2017.

Thank you

Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye on Friday appeared in High Court to fulfill a bail condition.

Besigye who was charged with treason early this year today appeared before the High Court Registrar accompanied by one of his lawyers Enerst Kalibbala.

However, after the case was adjourned, Besigye lamented over endless court appearances saying they are wasting his valuable time.

He said it is a violation of human rights for suspected offenders like him to continue reporting to court without trial.
