Photo: Kiiza Besigye joins Bobi Wine in studio, working on new song together

Former presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye is changing tactics.

After numerous failed attempts at conquering the presidency through his different campaigns over the years, Besigye appears to have now decided to use music to reach out to the masses.

We have learnt that Besigye today joined singer cum activist Bobi Wine in studio for a recording session.

According to the self-styled Ghetto President, we should expect a new duet. “When the Ghetto President and the People’s President are in Dream Studios Kamwokya, you know what to expect…,” he posted online.

Big Brother Naija: TBoss, Debie-Rise, Bassey and Bally up for possible eviction

Palpable tension seems to have returned to the Big Brother Naija house as this week’s nomination show returns previously nominated housemates, TBoss and Debie-Rise as two of the nominees up for possible eviction. They were joined by Bassey and Bally who were both exempted from eviction last week.

This week’s nomination show is predicated on Sunday’s Head of House task which saw the emergence of Efe as new Ultimate Head of House. Before the nomination proper commenced, Biggie instructed all the housemates to make a presentation to the ultimate HoH, and make a strong case for self on why they should not be evicted.

As earlier promised during eviction show, Biggie mandated Efe to make use of his privileged position to nominate four housemates that he will like to be evicted this Sunday. In this particular order, Efe nominated TBoss, Debie -Rise, Bassey and Bally, during a diary session with Biggie.

When asked by Biggie whether his choice of housemates was motivated by sentiment or strategy, Efe who appears to be on the spot, said, “I think it was both sentiment and strategy. This is because I prefer to have some of the housemates I am close with to get to the final while those I am not comfortable with should go.”

As the show progresses, the competition seems to get stiffer. Ebuka Uchendu, the show’s host has confirmed that one housemate will leave the house come next Sunday. Who will be the next housemate to leave the house come Sunday?

On Monday, popular producer and CEO of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy visited the housemates as a celebrity guest and he advised the housemates in the company of his new signees, the DNA Twins, including a studio engineer. The songwriter and producer got the housemates to build a makeshift studio where they all worked on the official theme of Big Brother Naija, See Gobbe

The seventh eviction show holds on Sunday, 26 March.

Don Jazzy reveals how D’banj’s parents financed his music career

MAVIN record boss, Don Jazzy, has revealed that it was not all about making money when he started his musical career. He made the revelation during a chat with Big Brother Naija housemates when he paid a surprise courtesy visit to the Big Brother house yesterday.

Responding to questions from housemates, the seasoned music producer said that he was never money conscious because all he wanted to do was make music. He stressed that he was never bothered even when he wasn’t paid after doing gigs and shows.

“My journey has been crazy. Since I started my musical career, I’ve not been in any situation that I felt like I wasn’t successful; even as I was in the church playing for my church elders, I felt I was Michael Jackson doing my thing. I was comfortable doing it, I did not even know whether I would get money. When I was doing Juju music in London, it was the same thing, if you give me money today, fine, the day if you don’t give me, no problem”, he said.

He went further to say that D’banj’s parents were primarily responsible for financing the establishment of Mo-hits records, a record label he co-owned with D’banj.

“Until Mo-Hits time, when we started the company business, we were like this thing is attracting a lot of people from across Africa and the world, so we have to try and grow it into an empire. D’banj and I sat down and agreed that now that we’re going to be putting out songs, we need to have a record label, but then we did not have money. D’banj is from a wealthy family, his parents put in some money, they gave us money to shoot our first video. I then decided that since we’re partners we’re going to share the profit 50/50. As soon as we made the money we went back to appreciate his mother for the help rendered to us at the beginning,” he revealed.

Comedian Basketmouth reveals why he avoids night clubs

Nigerian comedian Basketmouth in a recent chat with HipTV talks about clubbing.

When asked why he isn’t seen regularly in a club, the father of three said “it’s just too stressful”.

According to him, they are too stressful. From not being able to dance properly because of the crowd to drinks being overpriced it’s best avoided.

You go to a club, it’s crowded, you can’t dance. Everybody is hitting you. It’s expensive. At the end of the day, you’re getting stressed out to enjoy your money.

So, I’ll rather just stay home. Buy the drinks and keep it real.

Call my friends, we will club mehn.

Greg Metcalf the Managing Director of Nile Breweries Limited, the brewers of Nile Special Lager and Club Pilsner has quit the company together with three other top managers.

Metcalf will stop working in May this year. Other senior managers who have quit the company are Julius Biingi, Daniel Ogong and Paul Bitarabeho. Ogong was Marketing director, Bitarabeho was the Human resource director while Biingi was district manager Western Uganda.

Corporate affairs director Onapito Ekomoloit says the departures are normal in corporate life as the senior officials at the beer makers were changing jobs.

Ekomoloit said: ‘People make career moves, people move on from time to time for career or for better opportunities.’

However sources say the departures were instigated by the recent take over of the brewery holding company SABMiller by the international AbInBev in a multi million dollar deal.

“The new bosses make it clear they wanted a new direction for the company and thats why these guys had to go, the writing was on the wall, they jumped before they were pushed out,” said our source.

Biingi had served NBL for 15 years and will now be the company’s new distributor for western Uganda although under his private company.

Ekomoloit said there was nothing unusual about the departure of Bitarabeho and Ogong who are joining private business.

NBL was the topmost tax payer according to URA’s tax payer list.

Musician Wyclef Jean Wrongfully Arrested for Robbery

Wyclef Jean was reportedly wrongfully arrested on Tuesday (March 21) and he definitely isn’t shying away from voicing his outrage regarding the situation.

The recording artist was handcuffed and briefly detained by authorities in Los Angeles after being pulled over around 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The reason? According to Jean, “absolutely nothing.”

According to the New York Times, Jean was mistaken for a suspect in a robbery that took place near the studio he had been working in, resulting in his being detained by the LAPD.

Taking to Twitter, the musician began live-tweeting the situation into the wee hours of the morning, composing a series of detailed posts about the incident and sharing an accompanying video clip to begin capturing evidence he did nothing wrong.

“LAPD another case of mistaken identity,” he wrote. “Black man with red bandana robbed a gas station as I was in the studio working but im in handcuffs?”

As the incident unfolded, it became known that the real suspect had since been apprehended and Jean and the woman he was with were then released, namely because the victims said there was no female in the original getaway car fleeing the scene of the crime.

According to police, the whole situation lasted about six minutes. But that was more than enough time to truly upset the musician, with him claiming he was “instantly hand cuffed before being asked to identify [himself].”

Jean detailed his own experience openly and without a filter, further shining a light on how authority figures routinely treat suspects of color unfairly, thus sparking a heated conversation on social media in turn.

UTA grappling with ITF debts

UTA grappling with ITF debts

UTA grappling with ITF debts

By Emmanuel Sekago

Uganda tennis players will have to wait for the next financial year before they can take part in international Tennis Federation Sanctioned activities.

This comes after Uganda Tennis federation failed to clear the $25000 which they owe ITF in time.

Uganda Tennis Association ceased to be affiliated to ITF in 2012, after failing to clear their annual subscription of $4000 which by then each member country was supposed to pay.

As NCS handles the ITF debt, UTA still has uphill task of clearing $2250 debt owed to the Confederation of African Tennis.

Through subscription, there are various benefits the local tennis fraternity gets such as: grants for the players to participate in various ITF junior Circuits, participation in the Davis Cup, and Fed Cup events, admission of players to ITF training centers in Burundi, and Morocco, Grants for coaches courses and selection of talented players on to ITF/Grand slam development fund junior touring teams.
