Bettinah Tianah set to make a TV comeback

Media personality Bettinah Tianah is set to hit our TV screens again.

The former NTV Be My Date host, who mysteriously went MIA after her purported nudes leaked online, is now set for a mega comeback.

We have learnt that Bettinah has yet again landed a new TV job at NTV as the new host of the revamped Style Project. She will host the show alongside Solomon Tazibone and fellow new face on the show, Sheilah Gashumba.

New faces, Bettinah Tianah and Sheilah Gashumba come as replacement for Sylvia Owori who resigned from the show early this year.

“I and the executives at the station regrettably couldn’t concur with each other on what in my capacity (as a pivotal part of the show) thought was vital in making the show even better in the future,” Sylvia Owori announced her resignation. “I have always believed in giving utmost effort to finding common ground or effective and pragmatic ways to move forward when parties disagree. That style has been instrumental in making the show successful but, alas, I found that atmosphere was suddenly unfortunately vanishing to my regret.”

The revamped Style Project will premiere this Friday, May 12 at 7:30 pm.

Shell Gas prices reduced

Vivo Energy has announced a reduction in the Shell Gas prices, a move intended to make cooking gas affordable and improve the customer experience for Shell Gas users in Uganda.

The Shell Gas 6kg cylinder, commonly known as Ka-Portable has been reduced from UGX 200,000 to UGX 180,000 – a 10% discount. There is a new 12kg pack which will go for a lower refill price of UGX 110,000, reducing refill price by 20%.

The company has further introduced a new composite cylinder, which is more convenient and cleaner going for a refill price of 110,000. Shell Gas is currently the market leader in the cooking gas industry. It is steadily available at all service stations and distributors, currently with over 160 distribution points across the country.

The product comes in 3 packs for the Residential market and customised bulk tanks for commercial, real estate, schools and hospital users.

While speaking at the launch of the third edition of the Shell Gas Tokosa Food festival the acting Managing Director Vivo Energy, Edward Walugembe highlighted that Shell gas is committed to protecting the environment with their environmentally friendly products. “The introduction of composite cylinders is among the key initiatives by Vivo Energy to improve the quality of service to cooking gas consumers, many of whom have given up on using charcoal and power,” said Walugembe.

In several growing markets, Liquid Petroleum Gas is slowly replacing firewood or charcoal, either as part of a programme to prevent deforestation or to reduce illness and deaths due to contamination and fire accidents. Therefore, the reduction of Shell Gas prices directs its attention to the families, allowing them to cook safely.

Uganda in particular Gas is increasingly gaining dominance as a source of cooking energy. It is slowly taking over from charcoal that has for years dominated Uganda kitchens despite its cost and inconvenience.

Female kickboxer Apolot vows to retain Intercontinental crown

Fresh off a morale boosting outing in Greece, Uganda’s leading female kickboxer, Patricia Apolot hopes to make lighter work of Austria’s Carina Greimel when they face-off this Saturday (May 13, 2017) at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.

Apolot defeated Greece’s Katerina Abdalla during the European Championships held at the Greek resort town of Santorini from May 1 – 7 this year and in the process retained her International Title.

She returns to the ring this weekend in Kampala aiming to defend her Intercontinental Title against another European, Greimel.

The Hima Cement sponsored Apolot who has six international titles to her name stopped Egypt’s Lakrech Yosrah in the second round to capture her maiden African title on December 2, 2016 during the inaugural Reign of the Giants tournament.

Speaking during a press briefing today, Charles Mugasa, the Marketing Manager at Hima Cement said that the company would continue to support the development of sports in the country.

“As Hima Cement, we made a deliberate decision to support the development of sports because when sportsmen and women shine, the national pride is enhanced. Our promise is that we shall continue to stand by Patricia Apolot, the ‘Black Pearl’ in her quest for regional, continental and international glory,” he disclosed.

Beaming with confidence, the 25-year old Apolot says she has been training very hard for the bout and promised not to let her Ugandan fans down.

“I have been training very hard and this being the third time I am defending my title, I am only waiting for the bell to go off. I know she (Carina) is a good fighter; I watched her while I was in Europe and noted we had similar fighting styles. I know we shall give you a very good fight,” she stated.

Christened the ‘Black Pearl’ for her well-calculated moves while in the ring, Apolot who successfully defended her International title in Greece will be hoping to defend her Intercontinental title this weekend.

“It has been a hectic schedule but my coach and I are determined to see to it that all these titles are retained. I have great confidence in my abilities and with God’s grace, I will make it. I thank Hima Cement who are my sponsors, my coach and trainers as well as my sparring partners,” Apolot said.

She will be travelling to Hungary in June 2017 for yet another international fight. Her plan also includes a fight in August 2017 in her homeland, Teso.

Reign of the Giants 2, the fight that takes place at the MTN Arena in Lugogo also has other mouthwatering ties lined up. Alex Matsiko and Shakey ‘Breaker Breaker’ Mubiru will also be fighting for titles.
