A section of youths in Zambia have warned Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to back off their country’s affairs.

The group, a youth wing of United Party for National Development (UNDP), the main opposition party issued the warning on Monday moments after Museveni who was in the country to grace her 52nd Indepedence Anniversary warned the country’s opposition against causing trouble.

“We the United Party for National Development Lusaka youths would like to warn Ugandan visiting President Yoweri Museveni to desist from commenting on governance issues that our country is currently engulfed in,” a statement by Red Pepper Online reads in part.

The statement signed by Gilbert Liswaniso, a province spokesperson adds, “In no delay, we strongly condemn his warning to our President Mr Hakainde Hichilema that he should stop fanning violence in our country when in fact he has never done so. Mr Museveni must tame his tongue, for this is our Zambia and not Uganda where he has continued attacking the opposition.”

Hakainde unsuccessfully challenged Edgar Lungu in the country’s just concluded disputed presidential elections.

Museveni urged Hichilema to concede defeat and move on, something that did not go down well with opposition supporters in the country.

“I would like to call upon the other guy who I do not know who lost elections to remain calm and not bring anarchy. What happens if he brings anarchy and may be win next time there will only be ruins to pick up and if you are not in politics you will destroy the economy,” Museveni said.

In their statement, the UNDP Youth warned Museveni to desist from making such statements lest they conclude that he is nurturing a young dictator in Lungu.

“If Mr Museveni continues abusing his opportunity to visit our country in this manner we shall not hesitate to conclude that he is the one nurturing Mr Lungu into a dictator. Zambia belongs to us and not Mr Museveni and his Lungu who are daily planning on how to suppress the opposition and the Media,” the statement adds.

Museveni also congratulated Lungu for winning the August 11 elections.
