America attacks Houthis
Dubai: America has taken major military action against Houthi rebels. The US has carried out air strikes targeting underground bunkers of Yemen’s Houthi rebels with long-range B-2 bombers. Officials have given information about this in the early hours of Thursday. Officials said it was not immediately clear how much damage the attack caused.
Houthis are targeting ships in the Red Sea
It is not common to use ‘B-2 Spirit’ to target Yemen’s Houthi rebels. ‘B-2 Spirit’ is a bomber which has the ability to attack without being seen by the enemy. Houthi rebels have been targeting ships in the Red Sea for several months in protest against Israeli attacks against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Israel also attacked
Recently, Israeli air forces also attacked the positions of Houthi rebels in Ras Issar and Hodeidah areas of Yemen. During the attack, the IDF targeted power plants and a port. After the attack, the Israeli military said the air force had struck Houthi rebel positions in Yemen, about 1,800 kilometers from the Israeli border.
Who are the Houthis?
The Houthis are an armed group of Yemen’s minority Shia community. The community formed the group in the 1990s to fight the alleged corruption of then President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Hussein al-Houthi had formed this armed group. (AP)
