Dharma Productions on Friday surprised everyone by announcing its most awaited film based on C Shankaran Nair. The name of this new film of Karan Johar has not been decided yet. The film will show the untold story of General Dyer’s role in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and his fight against the British Raj to expose the unheard truth. Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Pandey will be in lead roles in the film. Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan are going to be seen together in a film for the first time. The release date of the new biopic of Dharma Productions has also been revealed.
Karan Johar announced new film
This new film of Akshay Kumar-R Madhavan is going to hit the big screen on March 14, 2025. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the upcoming film is inspired by true events and adapted from the book titled ‘The Case That Shook the Empire’ written by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. Karan Singh is also known for his hit web series ‘Bandish Bandits’. Akshay Kumar’s film ‘The Untold Story of C Shankaran Nair’ is a biopic which will show why Shankaran Nair resigned from the Viceroy’s Council in 1919 after the Jallianwala massacre. Not only this, what was the result of the fight he fought against the British government.
Who was C Shankaran Nair?
Chettur Sankaran Nair was a lawyer and politician who served as Advocate General of Madras from 1906 to 1908. He was also elected President of the Indian National Congress in 1897. Chettur Nair wrote Gandhi and Anarchy in 1922. A biopic on him was announced by Dharma in June 2021. Shankaran had openly opposed General O’Dwyer in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Because of this many cases were filed against him.

Dharma Productions’ recently released ‘Jigra’, in which Alia Bhatt and Vedna Raina were seen in lead roles. Apart from C Shankaran Nair’s biopic, Dharma’s film ‘Sunny Sanskari’s Tulsi Kumari’ is scheduled to release on April 18, 2025.
