Sarfaraz Khan scored the first century of his test career.
With the start of play on the fourth day of the Bengaluru Test match, an excellent century innings was seen from the bat of Indian team’s young player Sarfaraz Khan. When the third day’s play ended, Sarfaraz was unbeaten on 70 runs, while on the fourth day’s play, Rishabh Pant came to bat with him. Sarfaraz continued to bat in a positive manner and started scoring runs at a rapid pace, completing his first Test century in 110 balls. This is only the fourth match of Sarfaraz’s Test career and before this century, he had also played three half-century innings which came during the Test series played against England this year.
Got a place in the team in place of Shubman Gill
In the Bengaluru Test match, Sarfaraz Khan was included in the playing 11 in place of Shubman Gill, who could not play in the match due to a neck strain problem. After Gill’s exit, while Kohli batted at number-3, Sarfaraz got a chance to bat at number-4. Earlier, during the 2-match Test series against Bangladesh, Sarfaraz did not get a chance to play even a single match. With his comeback in the playing 11, his century has definitely confirmed his place in the team. Sarfaraz Khan has now joined the list of such players in the Indian team’s Test who have managed to score a century in the second innings after being out for a duck in the first innings.
Got a place in the team after a long struggle
Sarfaraz Khan was continuously performing brilliantly in domestic cricket for the last many years but he was not getting a place in Team India. This year, during the England tour of India, he got the opportunity to play the first innings of Test cricket for Team India and Sarfaraz fully capitalized on this and scored a half-century in his very first innings. Before the start of this Test series against New Zealand, Sarfaraz Khan had gone to play the Irani Trophy match in which he scored a double century with his bat.
