Air quality level falling in the national capital, reaching ‘very poor’ level

A thin layer of smog blanketed the national capital and the air quality index (AQI) dropped to 349 at 8 am on Monday, which was placed in the ‘very poor’ category. Resident and college student Kushal Chaudhary said he was having trouble breathing due to the increasing pollution in the national capital.
“I am a college student and I have to leave for college early in the morning. I am having trouble breathing because of the increasing pollution. There is a ban on firecrackers here, but despite this, a lot of firecrackers were burnt on Karwa Chauth yesterday. The government should take steps to control pollution.”
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI in Shakurpur and surrounding areas of the capital was recorded at 346, which is in the ‘very poor’ category. The AQI in areas around India Gate was recorded at 309, which was placed in the ‘very poor’ category. Safdarjung recorded an AQI of 307, which was in the ‘very poor’ category. Meanwhile, as pollution levels in Yamuna river increased, poisonous foam was seen floating in the river. Environmentalist Vimalendu K. Jha described this incident as a complete mockery of the environment administration in Delhi.
Jha of Vimalendu told ANI, “We have once again seen a lot of foam floating on the surface of the Yamuna river… This is a big mockery of the environment governance in Delhi… We have seen sources of pollution which are the main Of course, the Delhi government would like to blame it on other states because the Yamuna flows through these states but the primary responsibility for the pollution of the Yamuna is Delhi’s own pollution, the 17 drains of which.
