Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to the country’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary by offering flowers at the ‘Statue of Unity’ in Gujarat.
Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary is celebrated as ‘National Unity Day’ since 2014 on 31 October. Modi reached the world’s tallest statue dedicated to Patel near Ekta Nagar in the state’s Narmada district in the morning and offered flowers to pay tribute to the Iron Man of India.
He then proceeded to a nearby venue where he is scheduled to administer the Unity Day oath and inspect the National Unity Day parade.
The parade will include 16 marching contingents, including police from nine states, one Union Territory, four Central Armed Police Forces, the National Cadet Corps and a band.
The Prime Minister posted on ‘X’, “My heartfelt tribute to Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary.” Protecting the unity and sovereignty of the nation was the top priority of his life. His personality and work will continue to inspire every generation of the country.
The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Gujarat from Wednesday. On the first day, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects and new tourism centers worth Rs 284 crore. Late on Wednesday evening he addressed 16 trainee officers of the Indian Civil Services and three of the Bhutan Civil Services.
