US President Joe Biden recently hosted a Diwali reception at the White House, where the military band played the devotional song Om Jai Jagdish Hare, which received huge applause from the Indian diaspora who attended the grand event. Although Biden hosted the celebration on October 29 (Indian time), a video of the popular devotional song went viral on social media platforms. The video was initially shared by Geeta Gopinath, the first Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In the clip shared by the Indian-origin economist, four members of the band are playing the song.

The event was attended by over 600 eminent Indian Americans, including Congressmen, executives and corporate executives from across the country. Responding to the post, Indian-American musician and three-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Cage praised the White House for organizing the event in a grand manner. Cage said that the arrangement was very good and the violinist played all the glissandos very well. Indian-origin American astronaut Sunita Williams extended Diwali wishes and thanked Biden for recognizing the many contributions of the Indian community. When President Biden hosted Diwali celebrations at the White House, Williams’ wishes were played as a video message from the International Space Station (ISS).

Biden said in the East Room of the White House that as President, I have the privilege of hosting the largest Diwali celebration ever at the White House. It meant a lot to me. Recalling 2016, Biden said that he was the first Vice President who opened the doors of his house for a Diwali event. Now this has become a trend in America. Be it the President or the Vice President, a Diwali event is organized.
