There was smoke in Delhi on Diwali.

New Delhi: People across the country celebrated Diwali on Thursday. During this period, huge fireworks were also done in the country’s capital Delhi. Despite the ban on firecrackers in Delhi, people burst firecrackers on a large scale on Thursday night. Due to the fireworks on Thursday night, clouds of smoke have engulfed the city. Due to the smoke of firecrackers, the air quality of Delhi has reached ‘very poor’ category.

People had trouble breathing

As of 10 pm on Thursday night, Delhi’s air quality (AQI) was recorded at 330. During this period, AQI in major areas including Anand Vihar was recorded in ‘severe’ category. At the same time, the concentration of PM 2.5 in the air of Delhi increased, due to which people had to face problems in breathing. Apart from firecrackers, the situation worsened due to burning of stubble and smoke coming from vehicles.

377 teams formed to ban firecrackers

Let us tell you that the Delhi government had also formed 377 teams to enforce the ban on firecrackers. Apart from this, awareness campaigns were also conducted among the people. Despite this, firecrackers were burnt extensively in Delhi-NCR areas. The average AQI in Delhi was recorded at 330 in the last 24 hours. At 9 pm, Delhi’s PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels were recorded at 145.1 and 272 micrograms per cubic meter respectively.

Fireworks in Noida and Ghaziabad

Apart from Delhi, if we talk about the surrounding areas, the situation in the areas around Delhi including Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram was relatively better. AQI in these cities was recorded in ‘poor’ category. Whereas AQI 181 was recorded in Faridabad. Talking about the AQI of previous years on Diwali in Delhi, it was recorded at 312 in 2022, 382 in 2021, 414 in 2020, 337 in 2019, 281 in 2018, 319 in 2017 and 431 in 2016. (input- agency)
