Earthquake of 3.4 magnitude in Kutch, Gujarat, no casualties

An earthquake of 3.4 magnitude occurred in the Kutch district of Gujarat early on Sunday. Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) gave this information. Officials said that there is no news of any loss of life or property in the district due to this earthquake.

Gandhinagar-based ISR said the quake was felt at 3.58 am and its epicenter was 53 km north-northeast of Lakhpat.

According to ISR data, earlier on October 27, an earthquake of 3.7 magnitude had hit Amreli district of Saurashtra region of the state. The risk of earthquake remains very high in Gujarat.

According to the information provided by Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), there have been nine major earthquakes in the state in the last 200 years. According to GSDMA, the 2001 Kutch earthquake was the third largest and second most destructive earthquake to hit India in the last two centuries.

Gujarat was hit by an earthquake of 6.9 magnitude on January 26, 2001, whose epicenter was near Bhachau in Kutch and affected the entire state. According to GSDMA data, about 13,800 people were killed and 1.67 lakh people were injured in this earthquake.
