Marandi was the president of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha during the 2019 assembly elections. Marandi had won from Dhanwar on Jharkhand Vikas Morcha ticket. Then in February 2020, he joined BJP and also merged his party Jharkhand Vikas Morcha with BJP. In 2006, after differences with BJP, he resigned from the membership of the party and formed Jharkhand Vikas Morcha. Along with Babulal Marandi, 5 BJP MLAs had also resigned from the party and joined Marandi’s party. In the year 2020, after 14 years, Babulal Marandi once again decided to return to BJP.
Let us tell you that in the 2019 assembly elections, Babulal Marandi had won from the high profile seat of the state, Dhanwar, with 52,352 votes. Whereas BJP candidate Laxman Prasad Singh got 34,802 votes. In 2014, CPI(ML) leader Rajkumar Yadav had won from this seat. But in the 2019 elections, Rajkumar had to be content with third place with 32,245 votes.
