Sri Lanka Cricket Team: The Sri Lankan team performed strongly and defeated New Zealand by an innings and 154 runs in the second test match and made a clean sweep in the two-test series and won the series 2-0. This is the first time in the last 15 years that it has defeated New Zealand in a Test series. Prabhat Jayasuriya was the hero in the series for Sri Lanka. He took a total of 18 wickets in two matches and was given the Player of the Series award for his excellent performance. Kamendu Mendis received the Player of the Match award. He played an inning of 182 runs in the second match and played an important role in the victory.
3 batsmen scored centuries for Sri Lanka
In the second test match, the Sri Lankan team completely dominated and did not give any chance to New Zealand. Batting first, Sri Lanka declared its innings after scoring 602 runs. Dinesh Chandimal, Kamendu Mendis and Kusal Mendis scored centuries for the team. It was because of these players that the Lankan team was successful in making a big score. In front of Sri Lanka’s mountain-like score, New Zealand’s team was reduced to just 88 runs. On the basis of first innings, Lanka got a huge lead of 514 runs and gave follow-on to New Zealand. By scoring 600 plus runs in the first innings against New Zealand, Sri Lanka has become the first team to score 600 plus runs in a Test innings against 9 opposition teams. No team has been able to do this before Lanka. Australia, India and South Africa have scored 600 plus runs in an innings of a Test match only against 8 opposing teams each. Now the Sri Lankan team has created a world record, leaving behind Australia, India and South Africa.
Prabhat Jayasuriya took 9 wickets
The spinners played brilliantly for Sri Lanka in the second test match. It is on their basis that the team has been successful in registering. Prabhat took a total of 9 wickets in the match. He also got good support from Test debutant Nishan Peiris who took nine wickets. Nishan took a total of 6 wickets in the second innings. On the other hand, for New Zealand, Tom Blundell (62), Glenn Phillips (78) and Mitchell Santner (67) scored half-centuries in the second innings but with this they could only reduce the margin of defeat.
