Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Pensia on Tuesday wrote a letter to the police commissioners of Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad and the superintendents of police of Amroha and Bulandshahr districts, urging them to restrict Rahul Gandhi to the borders of their districts, keeping in mind the communal sensitivity of Sambhal. Sambhal DM has written this letter addressed to the Police Commissioners of Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad as well as the Superintendents of Police (SP) of Amroha and Bulandshahr.
Sambhal DM said, “The remaining survey was conducted on November 24, following which people from the Muslim community staged massive protests including firing, stone pelting and arson. As a result, the situation in Sambhal district has become extremely sensitive. Till December 10 Entry of any outsider, social organization or public representative into Sambhal district is prohibited without prior approval of the competent authority. Meanwhile, heavy traffic jam was seen at Ghazipur border on Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Congress delegation will visit Sambhal. Gandhi will be accompanied by five other Congress MPs from Uttar Pradesh. During Gandhi’s visit, Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Kumar told the media that if the Congress delegation comes, it will be given a notice as Section 163 of BNSS is in force in Sambhal and no outsider is allowed to enter.
Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai told the media, “Police are citing BNS 163 in their letter. So we will request that they allow at least 4 people to enter. If stopped, we will protest against Rahul ji, Priyanka Gandhi will insist on allowing Vadra ji, UP in-charge Avinash Pandey ji and himself entry.”
Rahul Gandhi is expected to leave for Sambhal from Delhi around 10:00 am and meet the families of those killed in the November 24 violence. As per his schedule, after meeting the families, Gandhi will return to Delhi by road.
Violence broke out during the second survey on 24 November when protesters gathered near the royal Jama Masjid and clashed with security personnel. Four people were killed and several others were injured in the violence.
