Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister of Karnataka and former Foreign Minister of the country SM Krishna is no more with us. He died at the age of 92. He died today at his home in Bengaluru. He was ill for a long time. In 2023, the Central Government honored SM Krishna with Padma Vibhushan. At present he was associated with BJP. Many leaders of BJP and Congress including the Chief Minister of the state have expressed grief over the demise of SM Krishna.

SM Krishna was once a big leader of Congress in Karnataka and had a lot of influence in the politics of the state. He was the Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004. Later he also remained the Foreign Minister in the Congress government led by Manmohan Singh. In March 2017, he left Congress and joined BJP.

Started political innings in 1960

SM Krishna started his political innings around 1960. In 1962, he contested the Maddur assembly seat as an independent candidate and won the election by defeating the Congress candidate. After this he joined Praja Socialist Party and won the Mandya Lok Sabha seat by-election in 1968. Then SM Krishna joined Congress and won re-election in 1971 from Mandya Lok Sabha seat.

Maharashtra Governor also MM Krishna

In 1985, SM Krishna again returned to state politics and contested the assembly elections. He was the Chief Minister of the state from 1999 to 2004. He was the Governor of Maharashtra from December 2004 to March 2008. SM Krishna also held the post of Foreign Minister in the Manmohan Singh government. In January 2023, SM Krishna had announced that he would no longer be in active politics.
