He expressed regret for not apologizing to his father before he passed away.
What did Gaur Gopal Das tell about his father?
Gaur Gopal Das told, ‘My father was a chain smoker due to which his health was deteriorating a lot. We tried hard to get him to quit smoking, but he was unable to do so. Then I adopted this strategy that I would stop talking. Stopped talking.
He told, ‘Father used to come again and again and say, son, talk, son, talk, but I used to turn my face away. After 2 years, father fell at my feet and said, son, please be with me…he was crying with me, a lot. Then my mother said, son, this should not be done to father. He is a father, he is wrong too. Who is the milkmaid? We are human beings, talk son.
He told, ‘So I started talking that day because my mother told me to. And within a week he left home and went to the ashram. I used to go to the ashram every year to meet him and every year I used to think about when I would say sorry to my father, and I was never able to do so.
Gaur Gopal Das said, ‘In 2009, I had returned from my lecture tour in London and one day my mother called me at 01:30 in the morning. Mother was crying. Needless to say, father had passed away. Before going to London, I had gone to meet my father and he had told me, son, bring your London lectures for me. I took the pendrive of the lecture. My father’s body was lying in front. I placed the pendrive in his hand. I placed my head at his feet and said, ‘Papa, sorry, I should never have behaved like this with you.’
