The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Tuesday issued a statement against the ‘One Country, One Election’ bill, calling it an attempt to abrogate federal rights of state governments and implement a ‘corporate agenda’. SKM alleged that the bill aims to create a centralized market in the country, which will not be conducive to farmers and workers. He has appealed to the people of the country to unite against this bill.
Part of implementing the ‘one country, one market’ model
SKM had led the massive farmer protests on the borders of Delhi against the agricultural laws in 2020-21. SKM said in a statement that the government’s move is part of implementing a ‘one country, one market’ model to promote exploitation of working people. SKM also alleged that the bill would weaken the country’s federal structure and parliamentary democratic system.
The SKM statement also said that several other major policy changes in the country such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Digital Agriculture Mission, National Cooperation Policy and policy framework on agricultural markets are aimed at encouraging corporate powers. Under this approach, centralization of agricultural production, processing and marketing is being planned, which may affect small and medium farmers.

SKM also said that the bill introduced in the Lok Sabha is being brought with the aim of ending the autonomy and federal rights of the state governments. The organization warned that if this bill is passed, it will have a serious impact on the democratic and federal structure of the country.
This bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, but a huge protest was lodged against it by the opposition parties. The government clarified that this bill will be sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for comprehensive discussion, so that the opinion of all parties can be taken on this issue. (Language)
