Kinshasa (Congo): On Tuesday, a boat carrying passengers suddenly got hit by high waves and overturned in the river in the African country Congo. Due to this, at least 25 people aboard the boat died. Many people are reported missing. Officials and local residents gave this information. It is being told that this boat had left from Inongo city, north-east of Congo’s capital Kinshasa. According to the information, there were more than 100 passengers on board this boat.
This accident happened in Fimi river. There is a possibility of this accident occurring due to the large number of passengers in the boat. Relief and rescue teams and divers have been deployed on the spot. An operation was started on Tuesday to search for the missing people. According to officials, the death toll in this incident is expected to increase.
25 bodies recovered
Inongo River Commissioner David Kalemba said, “The ferry was carrying more passengers than its capacity. For this reason, there is a possibility of the boat sinking. At least 25 bodies have been recovered so far. Search is on for other missing people. He said that according to Alex Mbumba, a resident of the area, there was a lot of luggage in the boat. Mbumba said, “The dead also include children, but at this time it is difficult to tell the exact number of dead because there were many passengers on board.” (AP)
