Islamabad: In Pakistan too, there is a tussle between the government and the clerics regarding madrassas. The clerics of Pakistan have made it clear to the government that their madrassas will remain free from government influence and will not become a part of the government department. In a way, he has directly challenged the government. This is in contrast to the stance taken by the clerics in 2019. Because various traditional madrassa boards agreed to hand over some control to the federal education ministry in 2019.

But now Ittehad Tanzimat-e-Madaris Pakistan, an organization representing madrassas run by clerics of different sects of Islam, after a meeting on Tuesday, announced this to keep madrassas free from government influence. A joint delegation of clerics met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad and supported his stand in the controversy over the bill related to registration of madrassas.

what is the purpose

JUI-F leaders are pressurizing the government to issue a gazette notification for the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill 2024. Its purpose is to withdraw the 2019 agreement and with this the district administration will get the right to register madrassas. According to the news of the main English newspaper ‘Dawn’ published from here, the joint delegation of clerics included madrassa boards belonging to Barelvi, Deobandi, Shia and Ahle Hadith ideologies, while the fifth board belonged to madrassas controlled by Jamaat-e-Islami.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Mufti Taqi Usmani said that the board’s collective decision to come under the administrative control of the Education Ministry in 2019 was taken under pressure, because at that time they thought that the Board was under the control of the Education Ministry more than anyone else. It is better to stay. Usmani said madrassas will remain autonomous and will not be subject to authorities in Pakistan, as they are in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. (Language)
