In the latest report of the World Wide Fund for Nature, the eating habits of Indians have been described as the best in the world. According to the report, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced if Indians adopt eating habits. If all countries adopt this then the damage to the environment will be greatly reduced. An organization named World Wide Fund for Nature works to conserve forest resources and reduce human impact on the environment. This Switzerland-based non-governmental organization was established in 1961.

In WWF’s Living Planet Report released on Thursday, Indian food habits have been described as the most sustainable among the G20 countries. It says supporting food production on Earth by 2050 will be the least harmful to the climate if all countries adopt India’s pattern.

Argentina, Australia are in bad condition

In this report, the eating styles of Argentina, Australia and America have been described as the worst. India’s Millet Mission has been specifically mentioned in the report. The report says, “If every country in the world adopts the eating patterns of the G-20 countries by 2050, it will take seven Earths to meet our needs. The greenhouse gas emissions standard for food is 1.5 degrees Celsius. If the eating pattern of G-20 countries is adopted in all the countries, it will lead to 263 percent more global warming.

The world needs to learn from India

If all countries adopt India’s food pattern, then by 2050, 84 percent of the resources on our planet will be sufficient to meet our needs. This means that 16 percent of the resources will not be utilized. This will also reduce global warming and improve the balance of the environment. We will emit far less heat than our 1.5°C target. This will improve the environment. If the world adopted Argentina’s consumption patterns it would need at most 7.4 Earths. Argentina’s catering system is the worst, followed by Australia (6.8), USA (5.5), Brazil (5.2), France (5), Italy (4.6), Canada (4.5) and UK (3.9).

Praise for National Millet Campaign

The report also lauded India’s efforts to promote climate-resilient millets (nutrient-cereals). The National Millets Campaign is designed to increase the consumption of this ancient grain. Millet is good for health and is highly resilient to climate change. “Eating a more sustainable diet would reduce the need for land to produce food. This would increase the number and area of pastureland and help tackle carbon emissions,” the report said.
