Vientiane: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a big statement in the 21st India-ASEAN Summit in view of the world engulfed in wars and the widespread tension in the world. He also announced a 10-point plan here today to strengthen the overall partnership between India and ASEAN. PM Modi said that relations with the regional grouping are important to guide the future of Asia. He said that in a world going through conflicts and tensions, India-ASEAN partnership will give a new direction to the world.

PM Modi said that India’s trade with ASEAN countries has doubled in the last decade to more than $130 billion. He believes that the 21st century, also known as the Asian century, is the century of India and the ASEAN countries. He was addressing the leaders of ASEAN countries, which include Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, Laos and Singapore. During this, the Prime Minister said that he had announced ‘Act East Policy’ 10 years ago and in the last decade it has given new energy, direction and momentum to the historic relations between India and ASEAN countries. ,

Prime Minister described India-ASEAN summit as successful

PM Modi wrote on ‘X’, “India-ASEAN summit was fruitful. We discussed how to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and ASEAN. We look forward to deepening trade ties, cultural ties and cooperation in technology, connectivity and other such areas.” The 10-point plan to further strengthen India-ASEAN partnership includes the year 2025 as ASEAN-India Tourism Year. This includes doubling the number of scholarships at Nalanda University and providing new grants for ASEAN students in agricultural universities in India. Prime Minister announced a number of people-centric activities to mark the completion of one decade of the ‘Act East’ policy, including Youth Summit, Startup Fest, ‘Hackathon’, Music Festival, ASEAN-India Network of Think Tanks and Delhi Dialogue.

PM announced scientific event

Modi also announced the organization of the ASEAN-India Women Scientists Conference under the ASEAN-India Science and Technology Development Fund. He said India will provide $5 million to expand its response to disasters. The Prime Minister also called upon ASEAN leaders to join the ‘One Tree for Mother’ campaign. The India-ASEAN summit comes amid tensions in the region between the Philippines and China over maritime issues in the South China Sea and the crisis in Myanmar, where ethnic groups are battling military rule.
