India The total domestic sales of leading automobile manufacturing company Tata Motors declined by 15 percent to 69,694 in the month of September. Let us tell you that Tata Motors had sold a total of 82,023 vehicles in September last year. Tata Motors on Tuesday said it sold a total of 41,063 passenger vehicles, including electric, in the country, which is 8 percent less as compared to 44,809 vehicles in September, 2023. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, said, “In the second quarter of the financial year 2024-25, the passenger vehicle industry has registered a growth of more than 5 percent in retail sales as compared to the second quarter a year ago.” A decline has been observed.
Huge decline in sales of commercial vehicles also
Shailesh Chandra said that the decline in sales was due to lack of demand and seasonal factors. Apart from the passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors sold a total of 28,631 commercial vehicles in September. Tata Motors had sold 37,214 vehicles in September last year. In the commercial vehicles segment too, a huge decline of 23 percent has been recorded in the sales of Tata Motors. Tata Motors Limited Executive Director Girish Wagh said that domestic sales of commercial vehicles in the July-September quarter stood at 79,931 units, which is 19 percent less than the sales in the second quarter of FY 2024.
Ashok Leyland sales also recorded a decline
Indian commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland’s total sales including exports in September declined by 10 percent year-on-year to 17,233 units. In September 2023, the company had sold a total of 19,202 vehicles. Medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) sales including exports stood at 11,077 units last month, a decline of 13 per cent compared to 12,752 M&HCVs sold in September, 2023.
Strong jump in Kia India sales
On the other hand, Kia India’s sales registered a growth of 17 percent in September. Kia sold a total of 23,523 vehicles in September. Kia shipped 20,022 vehicles to dealers in September 2023. Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and National Head of Sales and Marketing, Kia India, said that there was an excellent response from customers during Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam.
