Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) A situation of tension has arisen between India and Indigo Airlines regarding ‘6E’. In fact, Indigo airline has been using 6E as its designer code for the last 18 years. At the same time, Mahindra has recently introduced two electric vehicles – BE 6E and XEV 9E. After the use of ‘6E’ in the name of one of these models, allegations of trademark infringement have started being made. Mahindra said it is in discussions with IndiGo to find an amicable solution to the dispute. However, IndiGo refuted Mahindra’s claim, saying the airline has been using 6E as its designer code for the last 18 years and any violation of it hurts its reputation and goodwill. Meanwhile, there have been reports that InterGlobe Aviation has filed a trademark infringement suit against the automaker over the use of ‘6E’. It has sought relief from the intellectual property division of the court challenging Mahindra’s trademark.
Indigo has trademark
Actually, ‘6E’ has been used in the designer code of IndiGo Airlines and it has its trademark. M&M said in a statement that it is in discussions with IndiGo Airlines for an amicable resolution of the trademark dispute. “We have taken into consideration InterGlobe Aviation Limited’s concerns regarding breach of goodwill and we had no such intention. We are in discussions with them to find an amicable solution,” the domestic automobile company said in a statement. However, M&M Said that its trademark ‘BE 6E’ is different from Indigo’s ‘6E’ so that there is no confusion in the minds of customers. However, Mahindra claimed that it has launched its electric SUV ‘BE’ Trademark registration has been applied for ‘6E’ which is fundamentally different from Indigo’s 6E thereby eliminating any possibility of confusion.
Committed to taking all necessary steps
In this matter, the statement issued by Indigo said that the airline is committed to taking all necessary steps to protect its trademark and brand identity. IndiGo said the 6E code has been an integral part of IndiGo’s identity for the last 18 years and is a registered trademark, which has strong recognition globally. Any unauthorized use of this code violates IndiGo’s rights.
