Ashwini Vaishnav said, ‘Mithun da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! It is an honor to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award the award to veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty for his distinguished contribution to Indian cinema. He also informed that the award will be presented to Mithun Chakraborty at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on October 8, 2024.

In 1982, his film ‘Disco Dancer’ was released, after which he came into limelight. The film did excellent business in Asia, the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Türkiye and Africa.
