Then what was left? Deepak told him about Smita and he said that he wanted to meet her. Although Smita was not ready for this work and after much persuasion she agreed to do this work. In the audition, when Smita was asked to sing something of her choice, she sang nothing but the national anthem of Bangladesh, Amar Shonar, which was in Bengali. The director liked his voice. He immediately appointed him as news anchor. After this, Smita started reading news in Marathi in Mumbai Doordarshan.
