Chennai. Veteran Tamil actor Delhi Ganesh has passed away at the age of 80. Ganesh breathed his last on the night of 9 November due to health complications. Ganesh’s family confirmed his death in an emotional statement. Ganesh’s family told ANI that we are deeply saddened to inform that our father Shri Delhi Ganesh passed away on November 9 at around 11 pm. His mortal remains have been kept in Ramapuram, Chennai. The actor’s last rites will be performed on November 11 in Delhi. Ganesh’s acting career spanned four decades and he acted in more than 400 films.

He was known for his ability to seamlessly slip into a variety of roles, be it a comedian, a villain, or a heartfelt supporting character. Over the years, he has shared screen space with some of the greatest stars of Tamil cinema, including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and others. Ganesh started his film career in 1976 with the famous K. Balachander, who also gave him the stage name ‘Delhi Ganesh’.

Ganesh played the hero in ‘Engamma Maharani’ in 1981, but his extensive work as a supporting actor made him a household name. His most iconic roles include ‘Sindhu Bhairavi’ (1985), ‘Nayakan’ (1987), ‘Michael Madana Kama Rajan’ (1990), ‘Aaha..!’ Dilli Ganesh’s contribution to Tamil cinema was honored with several awards. He won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Award for his performance in ‘Paasi’ (1979). Additionally, in recognition of her excellence in the arts, she was awarded the prestigious Kalaimamani Award by the then Chief Minister J Jayalalitha in 1994. In the later stages of his career, Ganesh also ventured into television and short films and continues to entertain audiences with his distinctive style.
