The craze for Coldplay in India was seen at a different level. People waited for hours to get tickets for their Mumbai concert. There was also a competition among people for online ticket booking. The Grammy-winning rock band is set to perform three shows in Mumbai in January 2025 as part of its Music of the Spheres World Tour. In fact, there was so much demand for Coldplay tickets that the band added a third show on January 21 to its previous lineup of January 18 and 19. Despite the third show, thousands of Coldplay fans are disappointed at not getting tickets. Although Coldplay tickets have been sold out on Book My Show, the only authorized platform for ticket sales, there are many re-selling platforms that are selling sold tickets at even higher prices.
Tickets are being sold at high prices
Coldplay tickets are being sold for up to Rs 3 lakh on re-selling platforms like Viagogo. Despite repeated warnings from Book My Show, unauthorized platforms are selling tickets and people are buying them. According to a Hindustan Times report, the price of tickets for the January 18 show on online marketplace Viagogo starts from Rs 38,000 and goes up to Rs 3 lakh. At the same time, the price of a single ticket is seen to be up to Rs 7.7 lakh. Tickets for the ‘lounge’ section of DY Patil Stadium were only Rs 35,000 on the official platform Book My Show. This is the same place where Coldplay will perform. Book My Show has also made it clear that tickets purchased from any other platform will be invalid.
Book My Show issued a warning
BookMyShow posted on X, ‘It has come to our notice that unauthorized platforms are listing tickets for Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025 in India before and after the official sale. These tickets are invalid. Ticket scalping is illegal in India and punishable by law.’ BookMyShow has shared a post advising fans to ‘avoid fraud’. BookMyShow’s efforts did not work much in pacifying the disappointed Coldplay fans. Many fans accused BookMyShow of creating a system that benefits illegal scalpers. Many fans accused BookMyShow of not linking tickets to booking IDs, meaning anyone can buy tickets and later sell them at a high markup.
