A customer from the bank asked for clarification about this.
Documents valid for updation of KYC details in SBI also include a letter issued by the National Population Register (NPR). This information has been obtained from the Twitter handle of SBI. A customer from the bank asked for clarification about this. The customer has put a photo of the bank’s KYC updation form on SBI Twitter. One of the documents which has been declared officially valid for updation in the form, is also the letter of the National Population Register.
After putting this photo, the customer demanded an explanation from the bank. In response to this, SBI has put in a tweet a list of officially valid documents (OVD) with the presence of identity and address. The bank says that a certified copy of these OVDs is valid at the time of the person’s KYC updation or account opening.
The documents included in the list are as follow-
- driving license
- Voter ID Card
- Job card issued by NREGA, signed by a State Government official.
- Letter issued by the National Population Register, which contains information about the person’s name and address.
- Physical copy of Aadhar card. Apart from this, SBI can also accept e-Aadhaar, but it will depend on the acceptance of Aadhaar card holder.
This list is in line with RBI directive
The bank has also said that all the valid documents in this list are in line with the RBI directive. All these documents are mentioned in the Master Direction of RBI on KYC and NPR is also among them. This master direction was released in February 2016 and then updated in May 2019, August 2019 and January 2020. However, the clause in the National Population Register letter is from the beginning.
