A new incident of looting Rs 50 crore by placing fake orders on Myntra has come to light. This big scam with Flipkart’s sister e-commerce company was done between March and June. A complaint of fraud of Rs 1.1 crore was filed by the company in Bengaluru. According to the report, the company has been defrauded to the tune of Rs 50 crore. Scammers have committed such a big fraud by taking advantage of the refund system of e-commerce platforms by placing fake orders.
Loop-hole in refund system
According to the report, taking advantage of the loop-hole in the company’s refund system, scammers used to order expensive jewellery, branded clothes, shoes, cosmetic products etc. from the e-commerce platform. After the order is delivered, the scammers would lodge a fake complaint with the company’s customer care, underreporting the number of products received or saying that the wrong product was delivered. After this, a refund is demanded from the company and the company is scammed.
In simple language, scammers have taken advantage of the company’s policy. For example, if someone has ordered 10 products and after the order is delivered, the customer care of the company tells that only 5 products have been received, due to which a refund of the remaining 5 products is sought from the company. In this way scammers get any product of Myntra for free.
Police engaged in investigation
There is an option to lodge a complaint related to any product in Myntra’s app, in which users can complain about missing items, wrong products and quality. According to the complaint filed in Bengaluru, hackers have placed 5,500 fake orders in Bengaluru alone. It is being said that this big fraud with Myntra has been done by scammers sitting in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Suspecting a fake order, the company has complained to Bengaluru Police. At present the matter is being investigated.
Flipkart imposed cancellation charge
Myntra’s parent company Walmart has decided to revise its cancellation policy. This may affect the country’s largest e-commerce platform Flipkart. It may now be costly for users to order goods from e-commerce platforms. However, at present no official announcement has been made by the company regarding this.
