Microsoft (CrowdStrike Outage)
On July 19, 2024, about 8.5 million or 85 lakh computers around the world have stopped working. These computers working on Microsoft Windows operating system started shutting down automatically. This happened due to the release of a wrong Falcon security update by the security service provider company CrowdStrike. This update was released on July 19 at 4:09 UTC and its fix was released about 6 hours later at 09:45 UTC. During this period, millions of computers around the world crashed.

There have been several outages in Meta’s service in 2024. Most of the outages were fixed within a few minutes, but due to the server outage that occurred at 15:00 UTC on March 5, 2024, users were unable to log in to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Threads. After about 4 hours, Meta issued a statement saying that there was a problem in the server.
X Global Outage
The servers of Elon Musk’s microblogging platform X (earlier Twitter) have been down several times this year. In August and September, users around the world were troubled due to problems with X’s servers. On August 28 and September 7, a major outage was detected in X, due to which millions of users in America and Asia were not able to log in to their accounts.
Many services of the giant tech company Google have seen major outages this year, which have lasted for hours. On July 30, August 8, September 18, 18, 21 and 29 October and November 15, many of Google’s services came to a standstill, due to which crores of users around the world were troubled. On September 18, there was an outage of about 6 hours in Google Cloud Services. At the same time, on October 18, users were troubled due to 5 hours 45 outage in Gmail for iOS.
IRCTC
Due to a problem in the servers of Indian Railways’ ticket booking platform IRCTC, lakhs of passengers have faced difficulty in booking tickets. IRCTC server came down at 9.59 am on 9th December, due to which people could not book Tatkal tickets. After a few minutes the IRCTC server became fine. During this period, users faced a lot of problems.
