Know these 5 things before changing operator, otherwise the number will not port.

MNP

Telecom regulator TRAI has recently issued new guidelines regarding mobile number portability i.e. MNP. To make crores of telecom users of the country aware, TRAI has posted from its official X handle regarding mobile number portability. TRAI has told the customers about the things they should keep in mind before changing the operator. In recent times, after the plans of private telecom companies became expensive, lakhs of users have ported their numbers to BSNL. If you also want to change your operator, then follow the new guidelines of TRAI.

TRAI has said in its X post that MNP i.e. Mobile Number Portability is a process in which customers can change their service providers without changing their mobile number. The MNP process involves the telecom user along with the existing service provider and the new service provider as well as the Mobile Number Portability Service Provider (MNPSP). The mobile number portability service provider completes the backend porting process between the two service providers.

Operator will not be able to change due to these 5 reasons

  1. If a user is using the service of the existing telecom operator for less than 90 days, then he is not eligible for mobile number portability.
  2. Even if the request for transfer of ownership of the user’s number is in process, MNP may not happen.
  3. Even if postpaid users have not paid the bill of the existing operator, their number will not be eligible for portability.
  4. Even if porting of the user’s number is prohibited by any court, the number cannot be ported.
  5. Apart from this, even if the number for which porting request has been sought is pending in any court, the number may not be ported.
