TRAI Rule: New rules related to OTP come into effect from today, Jio Airtel BSNL and Vi users should pay attention

With the new rule of TRAI, messages containing OTP can be easily identified.

The Central Government is taking new steps to deal with fake SMS, fake spam calls and rapidly increasing cyber fraud. Meanwhile, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has introduced a new rule to protect people from fraud. The new rule of traceability is being implemented by TRAI in the entire country from today. TRAI has instructed Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL to implement it.

After the implementation of TRAI’s new traceability rule, OTP messages coming to mobile users will be easily tracked. If we explain it to you in clear words, now if a fraud happens to you through any OTT, then the telecom companies will be able to find out the source of that OTP message. According to TRAI, this can be of great help in curbing cyber fraud.

Fake messages will be identified

After the implementation of OTP Traceability Rule, mobile users will be able to identify the numbers containing spam calls or fake messages. This new rule of TRAI will provide great relief to crores of mobile users across the country. With the new rule, all the messages coming to mobile through the route of telecom companies can be easily tracked.

Let us tell you that in the new rules of TRAI, banking messages and promotional telemarketing messages will be kept in different categories. Companies can also issue alerts to users regarding suspicious promotional messages related to fraud, so that users can sense the danger in advance. TRAI said that the purpose of implementing the traceability rule is only to improve the messaging system.

TRAI said this regarding OTP

Let us tell you that the last date for implementing the traceability rule by TRAI was fixed for October 31, but on the demand of Jio, Airtel and other telecom companies, this date line was extended till November 30. Now it is being implemented across the country from December 1, 2024. According to TRAI, there is no possibility of delay in receiving OTP based messages due to traceability rules. OTP messages will reach users on time as before.
