A man who failed to enter Brazil’s Supreme Court killed himself on Wednesday by detonating a bomb outside the building. Giving this information, the authorities said that after the incident, the judges and staff vacated the building and came out.
Brazil’s Supreme Court said in a statement that after the session ended, two loud bangs were heard around 7:30 p.m. and all judges and staff safely exited the building.
Firefighters confirmed one person had died at the scene in the capital, Brasilia, although the victim could not be identified. Celina Leo, lieutenant governor of Brazil’s Federal District, said the suspect had earlier detonated an explosive device in a car in the parliament parking lot, causing no injuries.
According to ‘Speaker’ Arthur Lira, LEO suggested closing Parliament on Thursday to avoid risks. The Brazilian Senate agreed to his request and the lower house will remain closed till noon.
The explosions occurred about 20 seconds apart outside the Supreme Court in BrasÃlia’s Three Powers Plaza, which houses Brazil’s main government buildings, including the Supreme Court, Parliament and the Presidential Palace.
