Almost all the terrorists crossing the border have AK-47 rifles and M4 carbines. The security forces have suffered a lot due to this. The M4 rifle was first seen in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017, when security forces killed Talha Rashid Masood, nephew of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, in Pulwama. Since then, M4 rifles have been used in several terror incidents, including attacks in Kathua, Reasi, Poonch and Rajouri. According to a recent intelligence report, a large number of terrorists have gathered at the launch pad near the Jammu and Kashmir border and efforts are being made to infiltrate as much as possible before the snowfall.
There has been a stir among the security forces after the recovery of American M4 rifles from three terrorists killed in an encounter in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir. The forces are assessing how these deadly rifles left by the US Army during their withdrawal from Afghanistan were reaching the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. According to media reports, Pakistani intelligence agency ISI was supplying these top-class weapons, which have the capability to penetrate bulletproof vehicles, to terrorists crossing the border into India. These rifles are equipped with steel bullets that are powerful enough to cause extensive damage to fortified vehicles and infrastructure.
