London: The ‘South Terminal’ of Gatwick Airport in Britain was evacuated and closed for ‘security reasons’ on Friday morning due to the recovery of a suspicious object and a bomb disposal team was deployed as a ‘precaution’. Gatwick is the second busiest airport in the UK after Heathrow Airport. Gatwick Airport is located approximately 45 kilometers south of London.
What did the police say?
According to police, the incident caused huge problems at the busy airport’s ‘South Terminal’. However, Gatwick Airport’s ‘North Terminal’ remained unaffected. “Police were called to Gatwick Airport at 8.20am on Friday after a suspected contraband item was found in the ‘South Terminal’,” Sussex Police said in a statement. According to the police, “A security cordon was created to ensure the safety of the people, staff and other officials present at the airport. “As a precautionary measure, a bomb disposal squad is being deployed at the airport.”
