Washington: The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in America has arrested an Afghan man for planning an attack on the election day in the country. Officials say that the arrested man was inspired by the terrorist organization Islamic State and was planning to attack a large crowd on the election day in America. Nasir Ahmed Tawhidi, 27, of Oklahoma City, told investigators after his arrest that he had planned an attack on Election Day next month. He also told authorities that he and one of his companions expected to die as martyrs after the attack.
This is how preparations for the attack were being made
Officials said Naseer Ahmed Tawhidi came to the United States in September 2021 and had taken some steps in recent weeks to carry out the attack. For this he ordered AK 47 rifles and started selling his family property. Had also taken air tickets to send his wife and child to Afghanistan.
This was not disclosed
The FBI affidavit does not disclose how Tawhidi came to the attention of investigators, but it cites evidence in recent months that shows his determination in planning the attack. The woman, who identified herself as Tawhidi’s wife, refused to comment on the matter. The woman did not reveal her name. “We don’t want to talk to the media,” she said.
FBI had expressed fear of terrorist attack
This arrest took place at a time when the FBI had expressed concern about the possibility of a terrorist attack on American soil. FBI Director Christopher Wray told The Associated Press in August that “it was difficult for him to imagine that so many threats could come to his career at once.” Wray said in a statement Tuesday. ‘Terrorism is still the number one priority for the FBI. We will use every resource to protect the American people. (AP)
