Consulate termed news of ban on OCI card holders from entering India as rumour, said - old provisions will remain applicable

Indian Consulate in New York.

New York: The Consulate General of India in New York has termed the reports of ban on OCI card holders from entering India as rumours. The Consulate General tweeted, “We have seen reports spreading false information that restrictions have been imposed on OCI cardholders in recent days. Friends of the Indian American community are informed that no new changes have been made to Is.” The provisions of the Gazette Notification dated March 4, 2021 regarding the rights of OCI cardholders will continue to be applicable.

Let us tell you that the current provision on OCI card holders is that if an Indian OCI card holder acquires citizenship of any other country except Pakistan and Bangladesh, then he will be allowed to enter India also, provided he has remained a lifelong resident of India on his old passport. U visa sticker is affixed. Also, a new passport of recently acquired nationality should also be present. But recently, rumors have surfaced on social media and some media that India is now banning OCI card holders. That means OCI card holders will no longer be able to enter India. But the Indian Consulate has completely rejected these fears.
