The couple has got bail in the case. But while the former first lady is out of jail, her husband is still behind bars in other cases filed against him. The two, accused of causing loss to the national exchequer through illegal sale and retention of government gifts, were arrested in the said case on July 13, the same day they were acquitted in the Iddat case.

A special court in Islamabad convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder-chairman Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the new Toshakhana case. This case is also known as a jewelery set case. Special Court Central-I Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand, who presided over the hearing at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, framed charges against Khan and Bushra. The case was initially filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). However, in light of the NAB amendments, the federal probe agency took over the case and filed its challan in September this year.

The two, accused of causing loss to the national exchequer through illegal sale and retention of government gifts, were arrested in the said case on July 13, the same day they were acquitted in the Iddat case. In October, the former first lady was finally released after spending several months behind bars when the Islamabad High Court (IHC) approved her post-arrest bail plea in the said case.

Meanwhile, in November, the IHC also granted bail to the jailed former prime minister. However, both Khan and Bushra are not out of the woods as their legal woes are unlikely to end any time soon with the former prime minister’s name appearing in 188 different cases. The PTI founder’s wife also faces the threat of jail as the IHC said during a case hearing earlier in the day that her bail could be canceled by the trial court if she does not attend the hearing – to which Judge Arujmand on December 5 Had already issued his bailable arrest warrant.
