India and China on Wednesday agreed to work towards a roadmap for restoration of mutual trust and understanding. Along with this, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh during talks with his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun called for learning lessons from the unfortunate border conflicts of 2020. The defense ministers of the two countries met in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. This meeting has come at a time when Indian and Chinese armies have completed the withdrawal of troops from the two last confrontation sites in eastern Ladakh just a few weeks ago.
The Defense Ministry said in a statement that both sides agreed to work together towards a roadmap for restoration of mutual trust and understanding. It said that in the delegation-level talks, Singh emphasized that cordial relations between India and China will have a positive impact on global peace and prosperity. Noting that the two countries are and will remain neighbours, the ministry said we need to focus on cooperation rather than conflict. Singh called for learning from the unfortunate border clashes in 2020, taking steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents and maintaining peace along the India-China border, the statement said.
