Colombo: The National People’s Power Party (NPP) led by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Dissanayake has got an overwhelming majority in the parliamentary elections. According to preliminary results declared at 11 pm local time, the NPP had received 70 percent of the votes. The main opposition party Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the National Democratic Front (NDF), backed by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, got 11 and five percent of the votes respectively. The NPP won a decisive victory in Galle, the capital of the southern province, with more than 70 percent of the vote.
