Fighter plane crashes in Iran, two pilots killed

An Iranian fighter plane crashed in the southern part of the country on Wednesday, killing two pilots. Government media gave this information. State television identified the pilots as Colonel Hamid Raza Ranjbar and Colonel Manouchehr Pirzadeh. He said the pilots were on a test flight after the plane was repaired.

The accident occurred near the city of Firozabad, about 770 kilometers south of the capital Tehran. The report did not go into detail about the type of aircraft or the cause of the crash.

Iran’s air force has several US-made military aircraft purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Tomcat F-14 is a US-made aircraft, Iran also has Russian-made MiG and Sukhoi aircraft.

Due to decades of Western sanctions, the country is finding it difficult to obtain spare parts and maintain old aircraft.
