New Delhi: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau himself has admitted that when he alleged the involvement of Indian government agents in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, he had only intelligence information and no concrete evidence. Now the reaction of the Ministry of External Affairs regarding this matter has also come to the fore. The External Affairs Ministry has said that what it has heard confirms New Delhi’s consistent stance. We have consistently maintained that Canada has not provided any evidence to make serious allegations against India and Indian diplomats.
Foreign Ministry statement
The Foreign Ministry issued a statement early Thursday in response to media questions related to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s statement. Spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘What we have heard today only confirms what we have been saying all along, that Canada has not presented us with any evidence to support the serious allegations made against India and Indian diplomats. Have done.’ It has also been said on behalf of the Ministry that the responsibility for the damage caused to India-Canada relations due to this behavior lies with Prime Minister Trudeau alone.
Trudeau’s claims
Meanwhile, let us also tell here that, while testifying in connection with the public inquiry into foreign interference in federal electoral processes and democratic institutions, Trudeau also claimed that the G-20 summit held in September last year would be held in Canada if these allegations were made. Had it been made public, “it could have created a very uncomfortable situation for India at this summit.” He said, “We decided not to do so.” We decided to continue working behind the scenes so that India cooperates with us.
India’s stand is clear
It is noteworthy that India has completely rejected all the allegations of Canada. Earlier on Monday, India had expelled six Canadian diplomats. Not only this, it also announced the recall of its High Commissioner from Canada after rejecting Ottawa’s allegations of linking the ambassador to the investigation of Nijjar’s murder. Nijjar was shot dead in Surrey, British Columbia in June last year.
