La Paz (Bolivia): The former President of Bolivia is deeply embroiled in a case of sexual exploitation of a minor. Prosecutors on Monday stepped up calls for the arrest of former President Evo Morales in a sexual abuse case. It is alleged that former President Morales had sexually abused a 15-year-old girl, with whom he also has a child. A warrant for Morales’ arrest has been issued after he disobeyed the order to record his statement in the case.
It is being told that this warrant is yet to be approved by a judge. Morales, as of 2019, had been in power in Bolivia for 13 years. For the first time in September, the news of his arrest on this serious charge of sexual exploitation came to light. Since then, Morales has been hiding in the rural area of Chapare. This area is surrounded by his staunch supporters.
Sexually abused a teenage girl 8 years ago
Former Bolivian President Morales is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in 2016 and having a child with the teenager. Under Bolivian law this is considered a misdemeanor. Morales has not yet commented on the arrest order, but he has previously denied any involvement in such misconduct. Morales had said, “This is a conspiracy to destroy me politically.” According to the prosecutors, the former President has committed a serious crime by sexually exploiting a minor. The proof of this is a child born to her. (AP)
