Paris: France has come forward to help Lebanon which is facing the tragedy of war. President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday announced major assistance to Lebanon. He told an international conference here that his country would provide an aid package of 100 million euros ($108 million) to help Lebanon. Macron said there was an urgent need for comprehensive assistance for the people of Lebanon, including both the thousands of people displaced by the war and the communities sheltering them.
Let us tell you that Iran-backed Hezbollah had also fought a war with Israel against the attack on Hamas. After this, Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah and then his successor Hashim Saffieddin were also killed in an air strike by the Israeli army. More than one million people have been displaced in Lebanon due to the war between Hezbollah and Israel. At the same time, 2,500 people have died due to continuous Israeli army attacks in Lebanon. Due to this the economic crisis has also deepened.
United Nations had appealed for help to Lebanon
The United Nations has stated the need for assistance of $ 426 million for Lebanon. However, before France, India had already sent 33 tonnes of relief material to Lebanon. Italy had this week announced a new aid of 10 million euros to Lebanon. After this, on Wednesday, Germany had promised to provide assistance of six crore euros to help the people in Lebanon. Macron condemned Israel for continuing military operations in Lebanon. France also wants to help restore Lebanon’s sovereignty and strengthen its institutions.
France is strict against Israel
Due to the ongoing attacks in Lebanon, France has taken a very tough stance against Israel. In the last few weeks, Macron has been seen hardening his stance against Israel. He is calling for a ceasefire in both Lebanon and Gaza. He reiterated his stance in a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. Macron has also strongly condemned Israel for deliberately targeting UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. However Israel has denied this. (Language)
