Manila. An impeachment complaint has been filed against the country’s Vice President Sara Duterte, who is in legal trouble after she publicly threatened to kill Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Apart from threatening the presidency, Duterte is in trouble over his alleged role in extrajudicial killings of drug-trafficking suspects, corruption and failure to stand up to Chinese aggression in the disputed South China Sea.
The impeachment motion presented by several prominent civil society activists in the House of Representatives, the lower house of parliament, accuses Duterte of violating the country’s Constitution, betraying the people and threatening to kill the President, his wife and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He has been accused of committing other “serious crimes”. Duterte did not immediately react to the impeachment motion that accuses him of nearly two dozen crimes.
Lawmaker Percival Cendana, who supported the motion, said, “We hope that with this complaint, we will be able to end the nightmare that our people are facing because of our Vice President.” The Philippine Parliament filed the impeachment complaint. Review which is dominated by associates of Marcos and his relatives and supporters Romualdez. This process may take several weeks or months. Duterte had recently said that if she herself was killed in a conspiracy, the President, his wife and the Speaker of the House of Representatives would also be killed. He did not give detailed details of the conspiracy. After this, Philippine police officials filed a criminal complaint against Duterte and his security staff.
