United Nations. India has voted in favor of the UN General Assembly resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved resolutions demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and supporting the UN agency for Palestinian refugees. A draft resolution on “conflict in Gaza” was presented by Indonesia in the 193-member General Assembly on Wednesday, which was voted on.
India was among the 158 countries that voted in favor of the resolution, while nine countries, including Israel and the US, voted against it. Thirteen countries, including Albania and Ukraine, abstained from the voting process. The resolution “demanded an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire and reiterated the demand for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.”
It demanded that all parties implement all the provisions of the Security Council resolution of June 2024 in full, unconditionally and without delay. These provisions include “an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, the return of the remains of murdered hostages, the return of Palestinian civilians to their homes and areas in all areas of Gaza, including the North, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.” “Complete withdrawal” is included. The resolution also calls for providing immediate access to basic services and humanitarian assistance for people in the Gaza Strip.
