Karachi/New Delhi. An IndiGo flight bound for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia had to land at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan after a passenger fell ill. Later the plane took off to return to Delhi. According to sources in the Civil Aviation Authority (CCA) in Pakistan, a male passenger on the plane which took off from New Delhi fell seriously ill while it was in Pakistani airspace. Subsequently, the aircraft made an emergency landing at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
“There was a health emergency on board IndiGo flight 6E63 from Delhi to Jeddah,” the airline said in a statement. IndiGo said the captain diverted the plane to Karachi, where on arrival a doctor treated the passenger. “After completing necessary formalities, the aircraft departed from Karachi and returned to its original point of departure to provide treatment to the passenger,” the airline said.
He said that after dropping the passengers in Delhi, the plane left for Jeddah. The passenger was a 55-year-old Indian, Geo News reported. CAA sources said the plane’s pilot contacted the air traffic control (ATC) at Karachi airport after the passenger did not feel well even after he was given oxygen. He said air traffic control allowed the IndiGo flight to land in Karachi on humanitarian grounds.
