Israel has claimed to have killed Hashim Saifieddin, a Hezbollah leader, in an air strike in Beirut earlier this month, who was a strong possibility to replace the organization’s chief Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike last month.
However, there was no immediate confirmation from Hezbollah about Saifieddin. Saffieddin and 25 other Hezbollah leaders were killed in the attack in early October, according to Israel.
Last week, Israel killed top Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar during the war in Gaza. The Beirut suburb where Safieddine was killed was hit by airstrikes again on Tuesday.
In these attacks, the building which Israel claimed was a base for Hezbollah was targeted. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during his visit to Israel, said leaders should see Sinwar’s death as an opportunity to end the war.
Blinken also stressed that Israel should do more to send humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office described his meeting with Blinken, which lasted more than two hours, as productive.
