Kathmandu: International agency World Weather Attribution has stressed the urgent need to limit development activities in low-lying, riverside areas of cities in Nepal and enhance early warning systems and rapid action to avoid recurrence of flood disasters. The organization concluded in its recently published report that “Climate change is responsible for three days of heavy rains in Nepal.” Heavy rains in Nepal in late September resulted in flash floods and landslides. At least 244 people had lost their lives.

The report notes that “human-induced climate change has resulted in rainfall 10 percent more than normal.” The organization warned that, “unless the world replaces fossil fuels with renewable energy sources, The amount of rainfall will increase even more, which will continue to cause more devastating floods.” The report concludes, ”Climate change has caused heavy rainfall in Nepal.” Recent heavy rains in Kathmandu More than 50 people died and property worth billions of rupees was damaged due to the rains.
